Exhibitions, events, blog, and audio walk: Over twenty cultural institutions celebrated Dutch art and influence in Potsdam in 2023
With weekly posts, the blog Holland in Potsdam offered insight into the many facets of Dutch influence in Potsdam—from the tulip festival to migration, city planning, and art. Starting with the Dutch national holiday “Koningsdag” on April 27 and continuing until September 2023, the blog featured a variety of fascinating stories, places, and events associated with the theme “Holland in Potsdam.”
Holland in Potsdam was a collaborative project in which over twenty cultural institutions in Potsdam came together for the first time to explore a single theme. Initiated by the Museum Barberini and the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation, the exhibition Clouds and Light: Impressionism in Holland (July 8–October 22, 2023) at the Museum Barberini served as the point of departure for this citywide cultural festival.
The exhibition presented around a hundred Impressionist works by some forty artists from the Netherlands, including Johan Barthold Jongkind, Vincent van Gogh, Jacoba van Heemskerck, and Piet Mondrian. The city tour “Holland in Potsdam,” conceived especially for this show, was made accessible on the Barberini App and offers a tour of twenty different locations in Potsdam associated with Holland. The city walk remains permanently available as an audio tour on the free museum app.
